Custom Molding

Custom MoldingAlthough PI, Inc., was founded primarily to manufacture injection-molded plastic furniture components, it became apparent as the company grew that there was unused manufacturing capacity that could be utilized to produce additional products. So, PI began the custom molding of products for selected customers in the late 1970s.

One early custom molding customer turned out to be the key to permanently establishing PICM in the custom molding business. DuPont, Inc., of Wilmington, Delaware, was searching for an injection molder with equipment simliar to the size of PICM in order to mold “yarn pallets.” These were large plastic pallets used to transport carpet yarn throughout their manufacturing facilities. Impressed by the engineering assistance, production capabilities, and fairness in pricing, DuPont contracted with PICM to mold these products. This created a lasting and mutually profitable relationship with one of the largest companies in the nation. PICM became a certified supplier for DuPont and recognized as one of their most dependable suppliers.
